I have found out there are not so many people understand the difference between a blog and a traditional website because they all look similar. Blog is a website but it has got its own characteristics. A bog is a type of website it displays all its recent posts or entries on the main page in a chronological order. Readers can leave a comment and feedback on each post. Blog is more interactive than a traditional website.

For an example if you look at the home page you can see my recent posts are there. You can actually setup how many posts you want to show on your home page. And rest of my older posts are all in Archive and Category sections. Main function of Blog was being a web log or online diary. A traditional website is more commercial approach than a blog. It is more like an online office for of a web based business. These days so many traditional websites are implementing blog features on their site.

Blogs are usually written and managed by one person but you can have other guest writers to write for you as well. You can setup your blog and discussion topic based on your personal interest. You can focus on the specific interest groups and share Ideas and view. On the other hand a traditional website requires Maintenance, database management, site design which might not be possible for someone with no IT background.

The best thing about Blog is that it is very Interactive and you can change every feature on it. You can even design a blog similar to a Traditional website.

One of the few other useful features of a blog is Archiving. A blog can contain a lot of posts but you cannot show them all on the home page. The more posts you keep on adding to your blog the older posts get stored and indexed under Archive. So a new reader to your site can go through your blog’s archive and read a post that you wrote couple of years back.

Other Important feature of a blog is Comments. Readers can leave comments on your post. With chain comments from the readers you can even start a discussion on a post you wrote. Readers can ask questions through comments and leave feedback about the post or anything regarding the topic.

Best way to learn about a Blog is to read a few blogs and you will get the idea and notice the difference between a blog and a traditional website.
