WordPress Video Lightbox Plugin to display Videos in a Stylish way

We know how much search engines prefer videos these days. You might have noticed when you do a search for something, YouTube is one of the first things come up on your search results. People like visuals these days over plain boring text. A quick five minute video can cover the entire topic in a much entertaining way than a long article.

You can either copy the embed code and put it in your post or use a WordPress Video lightbox plugin to do this for you.

More and more people are adding videos to their websites. Videos can be informative, humorous, and instructive depending on the purpose of your site. You can create your own video or you might find a video on YouTube related to your cause and want to share that with your readers.

There are many easy ways to add video to WordPress site. Most popular way to add video to WordPress site is embedding the videos from other sites. YouTube, Google Video, MetaCafe, Vimeo offers “embedding” code that allows you to display video to your WordPress blog. There is two ways you can embed YouTube in wordpress site. You can either copy the embed code and put it in your post or use a WordPress Video lightbox plugin to do this for you.

I have found a good video clip on YouTube that shows how to embed a YouTube video in a WordPress Post without using a WordPress Video Plugin.

Now look at the same video below which has been embedded by using a WordPress Video Plugin.

You can easily see the difference in the Video presentation. WordPress Video Plugin displays videos in a very fancy way and looks very neat. Sorry for the “BIG PLAY ICON” but you can have any image you want.

The video plugin I used is called WordPress video Lightbox. When you open the video the display panel expands and makes the background darker to give the viewer a pleasant viewing experience. WordPress Video Lightbox plugin allows you to embed videos from YouTube, Vimeo, iFrame and also display images, flash on your post, article or WordPress site in a lightbox overlay. The embedded videos by Video Lightbox plugin can be viewed on iPhone and iPad too.

How to Install WordPress Video Lightbox plugin

  1. Unzip and Upload the folder ‘wp-video-lightbox’ to the ‘/wp-content/plugins/’ directory.
  2. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress.
  3. Follow the instructions in the “Usage” section to start embedding your images, videos etc.

  1. you have a good plug in. I’ve seen it on other websites before but didn’t know how but now I know. thanks for this info.

I have uploaded it and have activated the plugin but can’t figure out what to do next for it to work. there is no instruction to follow and no usage section you talked about.

@ Jacob – “you need to use short codes provided by the developer in the documentation to use lightbox to show your video.”
thanks for very little – and where might they be???

    • Jacob says:

Danny click on the link “Download Video Lightbox usage Instruction.” just above the “Download” button to open the instructions which got all the short codes. What is your source of the video? If it is youtube short code example would be [video_lightbox_youtube video_id=VIDEO_ID width=640 height=480 anchor=URL_OF_YOUR_ANCHOR_PIC].
Where it says VIDEO_ID you need to retrieve that from youtube if you are using you tube video and URL_OF_YOUR_ANCHOR_PIC is the URL of the pic that your want to use as a thumbnail for your Video. Usually if you load the image with WordPress image loader you will find the pic URL info in Media Library. Hope it helps. For more information Check the Instruction Link.

Can someone assist me? When I put in the shortcode to embed a Vimeo video, the code shows at text on the wordpress page instead of the link to the video. If that makes sense. I’m obviously missing something, but I can’t figure out what it is.

    Help is appreciated!

    Thank you!
